Porsche has unveiled a significant upgrade to its iconic 911 sports car, introducing the first-ever street-legal 911 Carrera GTS equipped with a super-lightweight performance hybrid system. This innovative model marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of the 911, combining cutting-edge hybrid technology with the classic performance attributes that have defined the 911 legacy.
The new 911 Carrera GTS features a 3.6-liter six-cylinder boxer engine paired with a newly developed electric exhaust gas turbocharger and a permanent magnet synchronous motor. This hybrid system delivers an impressive system output of 398 kW (541 PS) and 610 Nm of torque. The hybrid system enhances acceleration, with the 911 Carrera GTS reaching 0-100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds and achieving a top speed of 312 km/h.
The T-Hybrid system includes a compact high-voltage battery that stores up to 1.9 kWh of energy, enabling the electric motor to generate up to 11 kW of electric power. This energy is harnessed from the exhaust gas flow, providing a dynamic and responsive driving experience. Additionally, the hybrid system's lightweight design ensures minimal weight increase, maintaining the vehicle's agility and performance.
Porsche has refined the 911's exterior with targeted updates to improve aerodynamics and performance. The new model features a redesigned front bumper, matrix LED headlights, and adaptive front diffusers. These enhancements optimize air flow and cooling, contributing to the car's overall efficiency and performance.
The interior of the new 911 combines traditional design elements with modern technology. It features a fully digital instrument cluster, a high-resolution central display, and expanded connectivity options, including deeper integration with Apple CarPlay® and new native apps for music streaming. The cockpit is designed for a driver-focused experience, with essential controls positioned for intuitive access.
The new 911 Carrera and Carrera GTS are available for order now in various configurations, including Coupé and Cabriolet body styles with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options. The Targa variant is also available exclusively with all-wheel drive.
